How to choose optional subjects in CSS

The selection of CSS optional subjects is the most crucial aspect of your success in the CSS Exam. No doubt, a candidate might be proficient in one or more subjects, but he/she has to select 600 marks from optional subjects. Sometimes, it becomes difficult for students to choose which optional subjects are good for getting the highest marks. Here, we’ll help you in selecting the right subjects to get high marks in the CSS exam.

1. Read the list of optional subjects carefully:

To choose an optional subject, the first step is to go through the list of all the optional subjects. Ensure that you read the list thoroughly and keep in mind all the options and marks in all groups. That’ll help you a lot to all the optional subjects.

2. Figure out your favorite subjects according to your prior education:

After going through the list of optional subjects, the next thing to do is figuring out your favorite subject. Aspirants having 14 years of education are eligible to appear in CSS Exam. So, choose the subjects in which you have more interest than others or choose the subject in which you always get good marks.

3. Make a list of subjects that you think you’ve an interest in:

You’ve to choose the optional subjects from 7 groups to make a total of 600 marks. So, keep in mind that you choose the optional subjects that make a total of 600 marks. Make a list of subjects you want to choose as the optional subjects according to your skills, abilities, and aptitude. If you’ve studied science subjects in your previous education, it’s better to choose science subjects. But, if you’ve studied arts in your earlier education, choose arts as one of your optional subjects.

4. Select high scoring subjects:

Most of the science and engineering students choose subjects according to their interests. The subject’s choice should be made according to your interest and should keep your aptitude in mind while choosing an optional subject. Analyze the syllabus and trend score of optional subjects you’re going to choose. A student who wants to join the police department must choose subjects like law and criminology. Likewise, if you want to join the Public Administration Department, it’s better for you to choose administration related subjects.  Even if you don’t have interest in any field specifically, you can choose to score subjects.

5. Past Papers and their scoring trend:

To get help in selecting CSS optional subjects, past papers analysis is the most important aspect. That’ll help a lot for the students who don’t have any rational basis to choose optional subjects. Undoubtedly, getting good marks depends upon the student’s performance, not on the specific subject. Intelligent students can get good marks in any subject. According to past papers of CSS Exam, the choice should depend on the topics of one’s subject whether it’s more scoring or less scoring as per scoring trend every year.

Many intelligent candidates were equally capable of qualifying the CSS Exam, but they made a wrong choice in selecting optional subjects, and unfortunately, they failed. A wrong decision often affects your exam result. Do not rush or make uneducated guess to select your optional subjects; take your time to examine and analyze all the subjects and then decide which optional subjects are best for you in accordance with your 1) earlier education, 2) aptitude for subject, 3) time for preparation and 4) scoring trend.
